What a Budget Really Is
A budget is not punishment — it is a plan telling your money where to go before the month starts. Good budgets are simple, honest, and revisited often.
The 50/30/20 Framework
| % | Use | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 50% | Needs | Rent, groceries, utilities, insurance |
| 30% | Wants | Dining out, streaming, travel |
| 20% | Savings & debt | Emergency fund, retirement, extra debt payment |
Zero-Based Budget
Assign every dollar a job until income minus all allocations equals zero. This forces intention.
